Well I guess my teacher is reddit famous now

Well my computer science teacher, who is my absolute favorite teacher I have had, made the top page of reddit due to his rant about Indiana senate allowing biology teachers to teach creationism in school. He is a little.... Let's say direct with his statements.

What do you guys think? I for one agree with him, but he was a little bit of a jerk about it lol.

I think that they should teach both theories and allow students to decide for themselves what to believe.

See the thing is though, what about all other forms of religion. There is an implication that one is more right than the other if you teach christian creationism and not any other forms. I think this was a stupid law. I may not completely agree with evolution, but school (unless it is a private one) should be a place where you learn widely accepted scientific theories and facts. Forcing a religion on somebody is wrong, and from the previos thread made about religious beliefs, you can clearly see how i feel about forcing it on people.

I agree completely that no one should be forced to join a religion. Still, if you go to India, you're probably going to be taught more and learn more about Hinduism. Why? Because the majority of the population follow that religion. Here, the majority of Religious people are some form of Christian.

I think they should just be like "ok, this is one way it could have happened, this is another. Pick one, I don't care."

Schools should just stay clear from mentioning anything related to religion.
This is doing the opposite.

But teaching evolution is a tricky thing since that is science but its also pretty anti religion or w/e
Teaching both doesn't seem to be the right decision though

If it's not actual science, then why are they bothering? I never got that. Why don't teachers just say "This is what we know so far. Some people believe this, and some people believe that. I'm just here to show you what we, as humans, understand." That's how my old biology teacher put it, and that satisfied the class.

As long as the teacher doesn't say "The Big Bang is right and you are wrong," what's the problem?
