Why are anime fans elitist pricks all of a sudden?

Most of us here grew up on Dragon Ball Z, Sailor Moon, Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh, etc, etc. It seems like all of a sudden anime fans are like "Oh, that's mains tream. You're not really into anime if you watch stuff like that."

The ****?! Now, I watch a mix of a lot of different things, but one group that receives constant bashing are Naruto fans. I used to watch Naruto. I still like the original Naruto to some extent. If someone wants to watch Naruto, who cares? I don't They can watch what the hell they want, it's none of my business.

This whole hipster trend in general pisses me off. Anime, games, music...nothing is immune!

It's been like that for awhile now. And well, most non-mainstream series are actually pretty good compared to what's popular.

YOU CAN'T LIKE WHAT YOU WANT TO, YOU HAVE TO LIKE WHAT I TELL YOU, AND IF YOU DON'T, YOU'RE WRONG!

There, that sums up the internet, or most people in general. Same applies in your case.

What I'm getting at is, for example, a favorite anime for me is Bleach. everyone knows what Bleach is. Another favorite is Bubblegum Crisis 2040, an 80's anime that almost no one has heard of unless they've seen it.

So, if I'm talking to a self described hardcore anime fan, and I mention Bubblegum Crisis, they either haven't heard of it and become interested or know of it and start ranting about how great it was. If I bring up Bleach on the other hand, they're like "oh...Bleach..meh, that's mainstream." Who cares? They're both good, regardless of level of exposure. If BGC was popular, and Bleach unheard of, they'd be the same quality regardless.

No like why would you care if you were a true HARDCORE anime fan. Do what you want. People on the Internet can have their dumb opinions and whatnot.

Well i can actually see one valid point from the other side of the argument, so this isn't all so one sided.

Those animus you mentioned are all the ones that companies like 4kids take, heavily censor, chop and change and then supply to western audiences. I can see how people might think you aren't an actual fan of japanese animation if these are the only shows you like, as once the episodes make it over here they are sometimes barely the same show. This all doesn't apply if you are watching the originals and isn't always the case.

To be honest i don't really care what other people watch. Anime, like everything else on this earth, has a whole load of crap that you have to sift through to get to the good stuff. but people are free to watch whatever they want and I'm not gonna try and stop them.
