My take on why the 3DS is not doing well

Let me start by saying that I am a launch day buyer, and I personally love my 3DS. Here are some reasons as to why I think it isn't doing well. The only thing I will not mention is the lack of games. There are a couple good games out now, and with Kid Icarus on the horizon, sales may soon boost. Point is, everyone already knows that the library is a problem, so there is no need for me to list it here.

Parents are Ignorant
Most parents are not gamers, though there are definitely exceptions. If they go to get their child a handheld, and see the DS Lite at a significantly lower price, then look at the game case and see that there are a plethora of games for it, as opposed to like 8 3DS games, which are they more likely to purchase? The logical choice in their scenario would seem to be the Lite model.

Children are Ignorant
It's not always the parents. I was just in the store the other day, and there was a mother buying one of her children a DS Lite XL. Now, I looked at the price tags, and the XL was more expensive than the 3DS for some reason. I looked over to the cart, and one of the children was taunting the other one in a song like voice, signing "I'm getting an XL! I'm getting an XL!". It's big, and it's expensive. He doesn't give two hoots about graphics or functionality.

We've grown up
I have to admit, I don't play my 3DS nearly as much as I played my DS, or any of my Gameboy models. When I'm not home, I'm either in a class at college or at work. I can't game in either of those scenarios. When I was younger, I always had my handheld with me, because aside from school, if I was away from home it was usually something boring like a waiting room. While there have been occasions where I was like "I sure am glad I have this 3DS with me. Otherwise, I'd be bored out of my mind", those moments are a slim occurrence compared to what they once were.

I hate children who play video games. They're too young and always pick the bad games.

I picked pretty cool games when I was a kid, and some of my younger cousins make good choices too.

The 3DS is doing well. It was just the first couple months that wasn't, and even then it did better than the original DS.

^ This.

And it's not just the 3DS. The Vita had a less-than-stellar start.

I think handheld gaming is facing a turning point in light of easier-to-access mobile phone gaming. Time will tell how this plays out.

Kind of curious about something here. How did I know that the movie/TV show games were almost always bad, and not to waste my time with them as a young kid? Not talking so much for buying, but more so for renting (in my case, it could really apply to either but I wasn't rich or spoiled). One of the biggest stupidities I see, and I hate the gaming market for taking advantage of it now. The kids always go for the movie/TV show games. This makes an over-abundance of these crappy games because the company knows it'll sell to the parents that have their kids bug them. Kind of pathetic, glad I knew to rent the good games.

I can agree with your post almost completely, although I know other things factor in. You covered some of the big topics though, so it works.

All I know is I have a 3DS, and I like it. I'm kind of too poor to get anything with it, and by poor I mean I have money sometimes, but I'd usually rather go Skiing or to a hockey game with friends. So that kind of falls into your category of growing up as well I think. Gaming is not my number 1 priority for sure. Anyways, once RCT3D comes out, then that'll be a game I really want, and will go for. There really isn't much of those games I really want these days... Hardly ever. So I rarely buy games knowing that.

But unless it's made by Nintendo, the majority of good games are 15-18+. Kids shouldn't be playing these. Especially not online, they ruin the damn community by quitting early, insulting people with their bad grammar & spelling, not even playing the game to the objective because they only care about killing people. Seriously.

No... no... no... You have to pay for that typo. $10 please lol.

Anyways. The 3DS is fine now, with more good games coming, I don't think it'll ever be in the danger zone again.

Nintendo is stepping it up with the Third-Party support, implementing DLC, and the great eShop games.
As for the little kids situation, I don't know if it will be much a problem on the 3DS.
I just can't wait for what's next coming for the 3DS this E3, and as well as the Wii U.
