New Super Mario Bros. 2 for 3DS

Nintendo just announced via their Facebook page that New Super Mario Bros. 2 will launch for 3DS in august. They mentioned nothing of features aside ti it featuring "Mario, Luigi and all of your favorite characters from the Mario series."

Judging from the screenshots, it's heavily influenced from SMB3, just as the past several Mario games have been. Not complaining; SMB3 is one of my favorite games ever.

Note the P-Meter returns, as well as the Tanooki Tail. Hopefully this means that the Tanooki Suit returns, albiet retooled to transform into a statue as it was in the original.

I honestly wish they would just do remakes of SMB1,2 and 3 instead of the New Super Mario Bros. series. So far, the series has been super easy.

Nice to see that some aspects of SMB3 are back, but is it really a step in the right direction if all Nintendo does is bring back old stuff? I mean, there is nothing new in that screenshot. I really hope they bring something new to the table this time.

However, I'll buy it regardless. :/

So far we have a handful of screenshots. I get what you're saying; the gameplay will more or less be the same, but when I play Mario, I know the same core mechanics will be the same, because they know that if it isn't broke, don't fix it.

In all honesty, I'm kinda bored with all these Mario games. Why don't they release a different series multiple times over one year, like they did with Kirby last year. It'd be cool to see two new Metroid games be released so soon after each other. I think they have too many devs working on Mario.

Easy. Mario sells the best and is the most recognizable icon in gaming over the last 30 years. Metroid series isn't. Neither are any of their other series really.

Anyways, Even if we're saturated with Mario games, they're still fun for the majority.

Well counting Mario Party, Mario Sports games, Mario Kart, the platformers, and the king of them all: Just Dance 3, I would say there are multiple releases of mario each year. Unless you are strictly counting flatformers.

Yeah counting the spin-offs there's way too many. & Rin, maybe if they released more than 1 new game every 3-5 years for a different series, they'd be more well known. I mean let's face it, what Nintendo fan wouldn't be happy with more Metroid or Zelda games being released in the same year?

Personally I would rather have it the way it is. Saves me money that way.
